The Era of LED Lighting is Coming!

Since vast and shining LED lighting lit up in the Olympic Games 2008 opening ceremony, catching the eyes of everyone from the world, LED lighting has once again rung the bell of large amount of business opportunities. Driven by great concern for energy efficiency/saving, LED lighting is the ideal alternative for large lighting market, which accounts for 19 percent of global power supplies. As for 2011, the lighting market is also expected to grow 132 billion around the globe due to economic growing and lifestyle change.

According to IEK(IndustrialEconomics & KnowledgeCenter) report, the North American area requires the large expenditure for lighting because power using is more convenient. However, the demand of the developing countries are expected to see dramatically increased penetration in LED market since the places have invested in new construction, power supply deployment, and increased outdoor lighting. So that the numbers is drawing a picture for us that the Lighting market of developing countries are going to occupy higher market share in the near future.

As expected, commercial lighting still leads the mainstream market in using incandescent. Until recently, the increasing number gradually drops because of government policy. While consumers’ demand transforming, it further restructures the all lighting industry, including traditional lighting transformed into semiconductor lighting, elevating the importance of initial system; product orientation changed to application orientation; control system is becoming important like energy efficiency; Asian countries will become the largest demand market.

Until 2007, LED lighting market has reached to 60 percent growth that accounts for 330 million dollars since the Asian countries have overall boosted strong market demands, especially in China. Recently, LED lighting has been widely used in architecture not only the reason of technological improvement but also environmental friendly concern. Although the market growth is visible, it depends on if LED supplies are able to meet demands in this niche market.

As the third large application field-handsets covering flashlights, desk lamp, and lights for mineral, the LED flashlights featuring medium price and reliable is the key point to broaden market penetration. Overall, the revenue of consumers’ handset LED lighting continues to reach 99 million dollars by 2011.

By 2012, the LED lighting market has reached to increasing numbers as 1400 million dollars. In terms of challenges for future market, the following issues will be considered: the higher demands of energy and prices; traditional lighting technology grows slower in a bottleneck;advanced technologies and lower price will help deal with long-term difficulties; architecture and commercial lighting are going to take the lead in mainstream market.

As a whole, LED lighting market hasn’t been natural. It is believed that price drop determines by whether consumers can change their recognition from initial cost to long-term total cost and the implement of the government’s policy. As a result, the future price of LEDs can’t help but dropping as reasonable as expected.
